Illumina Miseq

For first-time users, Suyog Chavan can provide consultation and training, please contact through igen@hms.harvard.edu, and include 'Illumina Miseq training' in the title to ensure that the message can be viewed by the correct personnel.

To obtain access to the Miseq, please be noted that:

  1. The instrument is available Monday-Friday, each run is expected to start by 3 pm.
  2. Our booking calendar is updated every Friday by 3:00pm. Contact Suyog and select open time slots for your run. Please include 'Illumina Miseq booking' in the title to ensure that the message can be viewed by the correct personnel.

If you have a full run:

  1. Make sure that you have created an Illumina account on https://www.illumina.com/index-d.html, and that you have the access to Sequence Hub to be able to log into our machine.
  2. You must provide your own MiSeq Reagent kit. Make sure you completely thaw it out before coming to the Initiative lab.
  3. Your library should be prepared and ready to be loaded into the cartridge.
  4. You have the sample sheet ready to upload to the machine.
  5. If anything goes wrong during the run, please let us know, and we can contact Illumina to do an instrument check. However, you are responsible for contacting Illumina to see if your kit or library was defective. We are not responsible for replacing any kits.

If you don’t have a full run:

  1. You may join someone else’s run. Check the calendar for joint run availability and contact Suyog.
  2. Coordinate with other users to decide who to provide the kit (usually the person that has the most samples).
  3. Bring your own 4nM library.
  4. Results will be ready by noontime the next day, or noontime Mondays if you run on a Friday.
